Located in Port Coquitlam, BC, Big Dog Containers rents and sells both new and used shipping containers throughout Western Canada. These multi-purpose containers are no longer just for transportation of goods, but can also be used as shelters, personal storage, office space, or for waste removal on construction sites.

The site now has a more vibrant and easy-to-navigate look and feel while still maintaining the company’s original branding. It was Point One Media that was responsible for Big Dog’s previous site design, which was attracting business, but the client wanted to take the website to the next level. With a move into cloud computing, the client can now add to its online inventory and edit any of his site’s content, including the graphics simply using a web browser.

Features:

  • Custom graphic design
  • Content manager for adding new web pages
  • Editable existing pages, including a homepage featured-content block
  • Framework for search engine optimization (SEO)
  • Menu set-up, page set-up, and initial data entry into the inventory system
  • Website administration training and support

Results:

With just a few colour changes and a new menu navigation system, Big Dog Containers now has an online presence that is more in line with today’s website design—with its brand still recognizable. The new website’s framework allows for a limitless amount of products to be entered into its database-style architecture that provides the site administrator with the ability to add photos, text, and supporting PDF documentation as required.

Since 1971 the National Lumber Grades Authority (NLGA) has been the organization responsible for the establishment, issuance, publication, amendment, and interpretation of Canadian lumber grading rules and standards. NLGA is the only recognized rule writing body for lumber grades and standards in Canada.

Project Overview

Along with an updated website design, the National Lumber Grades Authority also wanted more functionality from its existing website. Point One Media designers took the previous black and white design and brightened up the overall look by adding more colour and imagery throughout the site.

A showcase of NLGA Publications was moved into a products database that uses shopping cart functionality with PayPal integration. The application allows for the addition of multiple product photos, PDF documentation (if applicable), SKU inventory numbers, and full product descriptions—all of which can easily be added and modified by an NLGA site administrator using the new interface.

Another added function of the NLGA site is the new member and executive area, which is password protected to allow for the sharing of documentation by the NLGA site administrator. Two user groups were established, member and executive, which allow the site administrator to specify which documents will be shared with each group. In addition, documents loaded to the site can be categorized by type, such as financial statements or meeting minutes. This area also allows for future expansion should further categories be required down the road.

Features

  • Custom graphic design using CSS
  • PayPal integration and real-time payment processing
  • Members-only password protected area
  • Content manager for web pages
  • Inventory manager

Results

The NLGA is now equipped with an online presence that does a lot more for both the authority and its members. Site visitors can order publications directly from the website, and members each have their own passwords to access a secure area of the website. The new NLGA site looks brighter and more inviting and can be easily expanded to fit the needs of the client.

P.S.I. Fluid Power is one of Canada’s largest suppliers of superior brand name hydraulic components to the oil and gas, mining, marine, hydro, civil, general construction, and forestry industries across the country and worldwide. P.S.I. Fluid Power has earned its place at the top of the supplier markets in BC and Alberta because of its commitment to exceptional service and top brand names.

Project Overview

Point One Media began working with P.S.I. Fluid Power several years ago when it assisted with the company's website build in 2006. For 2012, we upgraded P.S.I. into a content manager system that was even easier to use. Along with this upgrade in technology, we gave the website a brand new custom look and feel that is more streamlined so site visitors can instantly find what they are looking for.

It was important that the client be able to constantly update the site's homepage content, so we created three individual blocks of text which can be edited with just a few clicks. It was also important that the online inventory closely replicate the company's digital catalog that was supplied, and careful attention was placed on Search Engine Optimization.

If P.S.I. expands its inventory in the future, limitless categories can be easily added and if the company chooses to sell the product online using a real-time payment integration, the catalog can easily be converted to accommodate.

Features

  • Custom graphic design using CSS
  • Content manager for web pages
  • Inventory manager
  • Data entry
  • Editorial Services
  • Homepage content blocks for easy updates

Results

P.S.I. Fluid Power now has a brand new look and feel to its website. The end result is an easier to navigate inventory database that is very easy for the client to update on a daily basis, either from his office, from home, or from a coffee shop. The technology Point One Media used to power the website for P.S.I. will also help it rank higher in search engines and increase site traffic, which will lead to more sales.
